Norcia is famous for being the birthplace, in 480, Two of the major figures in the history of the Catholic Church: St. Benedict and his sister St. Scholastica. The town is in the flat expanse of St. Scholastica, has ancient origins and can compete with the giants near the tourist center such as Italy Lake Bolsena, Lake Trasimeno and the beautiful town of Cascia.
All the most important monuments are concentrated around the heart of the city: Piazza San Benedetto.
One of these is undoubtedly the church of St. Benedict, built over the birthplace of the holy twins in Norcia. The church dates from the late fourteenth century, but already in the sixth century there was a temple. The facade is decorated with a portal, the statues on the sides of the two saints and a rose. Several works of art are kept in the inside of the Latin cross. The crypt was built using pre-existing ancient Roman building.
Castellina In addition to the rock you can see the Duomo di Norcia , dedicated to Santa Maria Silver and built in 1560, after the original church dedicated to the saint was demolished to make room for Castellina. The church there is the side door, in Gothic-Renaissance style.
Not far from the Duomo, in Via Battisti, is the church of San Francesco, dating from the fourteenth century.
Finally, not to be missed the unique building located in Via Umberto: the newspaper. The newspaper is a votive chapel, built in 1354 modeled on the funeral of Roman temples.
Leaving the city of Norcia , walking along the winding road that leads to Visso from the city, including beautiful mountain landscape of indescribable beauty, there are plans Castelluccio, one of the largest bodies in Corsica closed throughout Italy.
